Delonte Maurice West is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association for the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks. He also played professionally for the Fujian Xunxing and Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association and the Texas Legends of the NBA G League. West is the father of two-year-old son, Delonte West Jr., who was born on November 17, 2001.

West played college basketball for Saint Joseph’s University. He was selected by the Celtics as the 24th pick in the 2004 NBA draft. West was part of a three-team trade that sent him, Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and Wally Szczerbiak to the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 21, 2008. On April 27, 2008, West made perhaps the most clutch 3-pointer of his NBA career with 4 seconds left in a playoff game against the Washington Wizards, in a tie-breaking game-winner. West scored 21 points in both Game 3 and 5 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Celtics, scoring both points in the final seconds of the game. He is the father of two-year-old son, Delonte West Jr., who was born on November 17, 2001. West is a member of the Washington Post All Met Basketball Player of the Year team for the 2006-07 season. He has also been named to the NBA All-Star Team for the first time in his career.

West has been called the best point guard in the history of the league, and one of the top three point guards of all time, along with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. He had a career-high 31 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves in a double overtime Celtics victory. West chose to leave St. Joseph’s after his junior campaign where he was selected to play for the Celtics. He went on to play professionally in China and the G League with the Shanghai Sharks. West also played for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2009-10 NBA lockout-shortened NBA season. His last professional game was on March 30, 2010, against the Philadelphia 76ers, scoring a season-high 20 points. West had a season high of 11 points on only six days after his trade to the Cavaliers and a season low of 11 on March 29, 2010 against thePhiladelphia 76ers. The Celtics traded West to the Seattle Super sonics on June 28, 2007 in exchange for Ray Allen and the Sonics’ 35th overall pick Glen Davis. West’s last professional season was with the Seattle Sonics in the 2010-11 NBA lockout season. In his first season, he struggled with injuries, playing a total of just 39 games, mostly coming off the bench. He averaged 4.5 points, 1. 7 rebounds and 1. 6 assists per game.
