About Aquaman (TV pilot) in brief

Summary Aquaman (TV pilot)Aquaman is a television pilot developed by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar for The WB Television Network. The pilot was expected to debut in the fall schedule of 2006, but following the merger of the WB and UPN, the resulting CW Network opted not to buy the series. After they passed on the pilot, it was made available online through iTunes in the United States and became the number-one most downloaded television show on iTunes. Justin Hartley starred as Arthur Curry, a young man living in a beachside community in the Florida Keys who learns about his powers and destiny as the Prince of Atlantis. The first 13 episodes already planned out, with a possible story arc involving McCaffery being captured and taken back to Atlantis. Stories regarding mythology were set to play a small role in later episodes. The concept of Aquaman stemmed from a fifth season episode of Smallville, which featured Arthur Curry coming to Smallville to stop an underwater weapons being being developed. The episode was never meant to be a backdoor pilot for an Aquaman series, as it was never considered for the role in the series because Gough recognized the character as a potential for his own series.

Gough stated, “Unlike Superman, there really isn’t a set core mythology for Arthur Curry. There are a couple different versions of it. We went with the most classic one” The pilot received generally favorable reviews, was later released on other online markets, and aired on Canadian television network YTV. It was also considered a spin-off from the Smallville series featuring Lois Lane, but Gough did not consider it for the new series because he felt more confident about Aquaman’s potential for a spinoff from Smallville. The series was canceled after one episode. It has never been picked up for a full season by a major network or cable network. It is currently being developed as a movie based on the DC Comics character of the same name, which has yet to be announced. The film was directed by Greg Beeman, who also worked on Smallville’s pilot, “Aqua”, as well as the TV series “Smallville” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” The movie was released in 2005 and has been a box office success. The movie has since been turned into a limited series, “The Aquaman Movie”, which airs on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.S. and Canada.
