She has also had prominent roles in films such as the action comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the comedy drama 5050, the crime drama End of Watch, the musical fantasy Into the Woods, the drama Cake, and the animated comedy Trolls. In 2012, Kendrick featured as part of the ensemble cast of What to Expect When You’re Expecting, loosely based on the pregnancy guide of the same name. She also sang on various soundtracks for her films and published a memoir, Scrappy Little Nobody, in 2016. She is the daughter of accountant Janice and history teacher William Kendrick. She has an older brother who is an actor and appeared in the drama film Looking for an Echo. She attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine, and went on to attend New York City’s Juilliard School and the University of California, Los Angeles.

She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their two children. Her husband is actor Robert Redford, and she has a son with actor Tom Hanks and a daughter with actor Matthew Broderick. She appeared in a number of musicals, including A Little Night Music and The Book of Mormon, and has appeared in several musicals and plays. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the comedy-drama film Up in the Air, and for her starring role in the Pitch Perfect film series. In 2013, she appeared in The Quest for Glory, a musical comedy about a college freshman who joins an a cappella group called the Barden Bellas and finds her more modern approach to music clashes with the traditional approach of the group’s leader. She starred in the critically acclaimed comedy film A Simple Favor, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Her most successful film of 2012 was the successful musical comedy Pitch Perfect: The Quest For Glory.
