Adrian Charles Edmondson is an English comedian, actor, musician and television presenter. He was part of the alternative comedy boom in the early 1980s and had roles in the television series The Young Ones and Bottom. In the 2000s he appeared in numerous TV programmes in drama roles including Holby City, Miss Austen Regrets and Teenage Kicks. In 2013 he was crowned the winner of Celebrity Masterchef. From 2019 to 2020, he will appear in the BBC soap opera EastEnders as Daniel Cook.

He is the son of Dorothy Eileen Sturgeon and Fred Edmondsson, a teacher in the armed forces. His father was a deputy headmaster at the former Drummond Middle School in Manningham, Bradford, in the mid-1980s. He attended Pocklington School, East Riding of Yorkshire from 1968 to 1975. He went to the University of Manchester to study drama, where he met his future comedy partner Rik Mayall, and graduated with a 2: 1 degree. He formed a folk punk band, The Bad Shepherds, singing and playing mandola and mandolin, and performed and wrote for the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. In 2011 he presented a series of shows for ITV: The Dales, which focused on people working in the Yorkshire Dales and Ade in Britain in which he undertook a tour of numerous places in Britain. A second series aired in 2012. He has appeared in a number of films, including The Supergrass and The Comic Strip Presents..

In 2012 he starred as one of five of the five students in The Comicstrip Presents… a parody of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five, which drew anger from some viewers for the way it mercilessly satirised a children’s classic, The Famous Five. He also starred in the film adaptation of The Big Lebowski, which was released the same year as the film of the same name. He currently lives in London with his wife and two children. He lives with his family in a house he shared with four students where they shared around the house where they lived in the same style of anarchic style as The Young ones. He and his wife have two children, a son, a daughter and a son-in-law. The couple have a son and a daughter. They have two step-daughters and a step-son. They are expecting their first child, a girl, due in the spring of 2015. They also have a daughter, who is due to be born in April 2015. He recently moved to London to live with his girlfriend, who he met at The Comedy Store. He now lives with her in London and has a daughter with whom he has a son. He works as a freelance writer and has written a book about the history of music in the UK and Europe. He  has also appeared in several films and TV shows.
