Blunt’s breakthrough came in 2006 with her starring roles in the TV film Gideon’s Daughter and the comedy-drama film The Devil Wears Prada. She was praised for playing a principled FBI agent in the crime film Sicario, an alcoholic in the thriller The Girl on the Train, and a survivalist mother in the horror film A Quiet Place. She shared the Evening Standard Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer with co-star Natalie Press. She is the second of four children born to Joanna, a former actress and teacher, and barrister Oliver Blunt, QC. Her grandfather was Major General Peter Blunt and one of her paternal uncles is Crispin Blunt,. Blunt had difficulties with stuttering from the age of seven to 14, and credits a school teacher for helping her manage the stutter through acting. She attended Ibstock Place School in Roehampton, southwest London, and, at the aged of 16, went to Hurtwood School in Surrey, a private sixth form college known for its performing arts programme. She has two children, Felicity, Sebastian, and Susannah.

Her siblings are Felicity and Sebastian, and her grandfather is Major General Peter Blunt. She also has a younger brother, Oliver, who is a barrister and Conservative Member of Parliament for Reigate. Her mother is Joanna’s sister, and her father is barrister Oliver Blunt and a former Conservative MP for Reigate, Crispin Blunt, as well as her sister Felicity and Sebastian, who are both actresses. She lives in Wandsworth, London, with her husband John Krasinski and their two children. She and her husband have a son, Jack, who was born in 2008. She had a daughter, Charlotte, in 2010. She appeared in the film The Young Victoria, which was directed by Stephen Poliakoff. She starred in The Adjustment Bureau, Looper, and Edge of Tomorrow, and the musical films Into the Woods and Mary Poppins Returns. She played the troubled child doctor in The New Warner spin-off The Only Child. She won the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role of Gideon’s Daughter, based on an original screenplay written by StephenPoliakoff, where she played the only child of Labour doctor Gideon Warner. In 2004, she received considerable attention for her performance as Tamsin in the independent British drama My summer of Love, a love story revolving around two young women from different socioeconomic backgrounds in the English countryside.
