Zachary Bogosian is an American professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. He has previously played for the Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning. He won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2020.

He was rated as one of the top players heading into the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, where he was selected third overall by the thrashers. He made his NHL debut in the first game of the season against the Washington Capitals on October 10. On October 28, he broke his leg in a fight with enforcer Donald Brashear. He became the youngest person to play in the NHL at 18 years and 87 days, surpassing Ilya Kovalchuk’s record of 20-24 seconds. He also played in the 2009 IIHF World Championship for the U.S. national team. His brother, Aaron, and Ray Bourque’s son, Ryan, are also former NHL players. He played for Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the 2006-07 season.

He led his team in scoring with 61 points, the only defenseman in the league to do so. In the 2007-08 season, he was named one of five draft-eligible finalists for the Red Tilson Trophy as most outstanding player in the OHL, and was also named to the OHSL First All-Star Team. He cited watching Ottawa 67’s games at age nine as a major influence in deciding to play hockey in Canada. His father and uncle had also played college football in the NCAA, and he was expected to follow them in going to university. In July 2008, he signed a three-year, entry-level contract worth $2. 625 million with the Thrasher’s. On September 4, 2008, Bogosians signed a two-year contract worth USD 2.625 million. The contract was worth $1.5 million more than his previous one. He left the Thashers in October 2008 after breaking his leg during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He later returned to the team in October 2009, and made his first appearance in the team’s opening game on November 10.
