Many elements of the episode parody the Bond films, with a character modeled after Bond making a brief appearance. It was very well received by critics. IGN named it the best episode of the eighth season and Brooks as one of the best guest stars in the history of the show. It is the only episode in the series to feature Homer working for a boss who is a supervillain, unbeknownst to Homer. The writers initially hoped the audience would be fooled into thinking the move was permanent. They tried to work in as many characters during the episode’s first act as possible to make it seem like the family was really leaving. The plot for four sequences which were later cut from the episode were later included in the episode because of time constraints. There was originally another idea involving Grampa Simpson, but it was later cut because the writers wanted to give every member of the family their own story.

The next day the family returns to Springfield and Homer receives the Denver Broncos as a present from Scorpio, who has successfully managed to seize the U.S. East Coast. At dinner, Homer proudly tells the family how well he is doing at work, but he discovers that they hate Cypresses Creek and want to return to Springfield.
