About Yoda in brief

Summary YodaYoda is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe, first appearing in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back. He is a small, green humanoid alien who is powerful with the Force. Yoda has become iconic in popular culture due to his distinct pattern of speech and role as a mentor. In the prequel trilogy, set a generation before the original trilogy, Yoda is among the most powerful members of the Jedi Order and a general of clone troopers during the Clone Wars. He also trains all Jedi children before they are assigned a Jedi master. The character’s race and home world have not been named in any official media, canonical or otherwise, and he is merely said to be of a “species unknown” Yoda was recreated in CGI for the 2011 Blu-ray release of The Phantom Menace. In Revenge of the Sith, his face appears in several big close-ups, demanding highly detailed CGI work. His performance was deliberately designed to be consistent with the limitations of the puppet version, with some “mistakes” made such as the occasional ear-jiggling. The Mandalorian named Groguar is unknown in current Star Wars canon: Yaddle and the respective character in The Mandalorians is unknown. Two other members of Yoda’s species are known in current canon: The Yadda and the Yaddu, both of whom are known to have been a Jedi Master for quite some time before the films were released. The Jedi Master in the Expanded Universe reveal that Yoda had a hand in training almost every Jedi Master of the galaxy, including several younglings in the pre-quel films, and several young Jedi in the original films.

In Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones he mentions that he had been training for 800 years, which means he must have been Jedi for quitesome time before that time. In The Empire strikes Back he makes his first appearance in the film. In Return of The Jedi he appears again in the sequel trilogy, advising an older Luke and empowering Rey to face a revived Emperor Palpatine. He was voiced by John Lithgow while Tom Kane voiced him in the Clone War animated series and several video games. For the radio dramatizations of The Empirerikes Back and Return of the lightsaber he was voice by Tom Kane. The puppet was re-designed by Nick Dudman from Stuart Freeborn’s original design. He was redesigned to look younger for two distant shots but remained mostly a puppet. He appeared for a vocal cameo in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. The 2012 theatrical 3D release of The Phantom Menace also features the CG version of the Yoda. He has appeared in several films and Expanded  Universe Expanded films, making them somewhat of anastactically separate from the films and making them more of a hybrid of the films. The Last Jedi is the first film in the series to feature Yoda as a fully-fledged Jedi Master.
