The series follows the conflicts along the shared borders of a large cattle ranch, a Native reservation, and land developers.

The series follows the conflicts along the shared borders of a large cattle ranch, a Native reservation, and land developers. Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in the United States. The plots revolve around family drama and the bordering Native reservations, and national park. It was announced that following reports of sexual abuse allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein, his name would be removed from the series’ credits as would The Weinstein Company. On January 15, 2018, Kevin Kay, president of Paramount Network, clarified during the annual Television Critics Association’s winter press tour that Yellowstone will not have the Weinstein Company’s credits or logo on them, even though that company was involved in production.

On June 19, 2019, the series was renewed by Paramount for a third season, which premiered in June 21, 2020. In February 2020, Paramount Network renewed the series for a fourth season, ahead of the premiere of its third season. The fourth season is expected to premiere in August 2020. The fifth and final season will be released in September 2020, following the conclusion of the fifth season of Yellowstone. The sixth and seventh seasons of Yellowstone are expected to be released on October 1, 2020 and October 2, 2020, respectively.
