His performance in Call Me By Your Name earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He also appeared in the films Hot Summer Nights and Lady Bird as well as the western film Hostiles. In 2019, he starred as King Henry V and Theodore \”Laurie\” Laurence in the period dramas The King and Little Women, respectively. His mother, Nicole Flender, is a third-generation New Yorker of half Russian Jewish and half Austrian Jewish descent. His French father is an editor for UNICEF and a former New York correspondent for Le Parisien. He holds dual citizenship in the United States and France. He dated Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, a fellow student, for a year in high school. He starred in school musicals as Eme in Cabaret and Oscar Lindquist in Sweet Charity, graduating in 2013. He followed this with a minor role in the television series Law & Order, playing a murder victim in Loving. In 2011, he appeared in several commercials and acted in two short films before making his debut on an episode of the long-running police procedural Law & order. In 2012, he made his feature film debut in the drama Men, Women & Children and subsequently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s science-fiction film Interstellar. In 2017, he portrayed a drug-addicted teenager in Beautiful Boy, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe Award.

On stage, he has starred in John Patrick Shanley’s autobiographical play Prodigal Son in 2016, and won a Lucille Lortel Award. He attended Columbia University for one year, majoring in cultural anthropology. He later transferred to New York University’s Gallatin Study School of Individual Study to pursue his acting career directly after filming Interstellar. His childhood dream was to become a professional soccer player, saying, \”I was a coach at a soccer camp in France. I coached six to ten-year-olds when I was around thirteen. I became the French version of myself,\” he told La Presse. His paternal grandmother, who had moved to France, was originally Canadian of British descent. Timothée’s older sister, Pauline, is an actress and has lived in Paris. He stated that his time in France led to cross-cultural identity issues. He said that he found it difficult to assimilate to French culture, having found it hard to assimilated to American culture. He was born on December 27, 1995 in New York City, and grew up in the federally subsidized artists’ building Manhattan Plaza, in Hell’s Kitchen. He has two older sisters, one of whom is a real estate broker at The Corcoran Group, and one who is a former Broadway dancer.
