Steven Davis

Steven Davis MBE is a Northern Irish professional footballer. He plays for Scottish Premiership club Rangers and is the captain of the Northern Ireland national team. Davis began his career with Premier League club Aston Villa in 2004. He was sold to Fulham for £4million in the summer of 2007, but moved on loan to Rangers in January 2008 for an initial six months. He made 211 appearances for the Glasgow club, winning three consecutive league titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups. In 2012, Davis exercised his rights under TUPE regulations to rescind his contract and become a free agent, returning to the Premier League with Southampton. Davis captained his nation at UEFA Euro 2016.

In 2012, Davis exercised his rights under TUPE regulations to rescind his contract and become a free agent, returning to the Premier League with Southampton. Davis captained his nation at UEFA Euro 2016. He has been capped 124 times at senior level to become the most capped player in Northern Ireland, scoring twelve goals. Davis was also named PFA Players’ Player of the Year on 2 May 2010, and won the Scottish League Cup for the second time in his career in May 2010.

He also helped the team reach the 2008 UEFA Cup Final, and winning the Scottish Cup in May. Davis has been awarded the MBE for his services to football in 2012. He is also a member of the Football Association of Northern Ireland’s Hall of Fame and the Football Writers’ Association of Ireland”s Football Hall of Shame for his contribution to the game. Davis is the first Northern Irishman to be awarded an MBE in the same year as Sir Bobby Charlton, who was knighted for services to the footballing community in 1966. Davis made his full international debut in 2005 and has since won 124 caps for Northern Ireland. He scored his first goal, again in European competition, against German team Werder Bremen. In January 2008, Davis was signed on a six-month loan by Rangers, the club he supported as a boy, and made his Rangers debut against Panathinaikos in the UEFA Cup on 13 February. On 21 August 2008, he made his move from Fulham permanent, in a transfer worth £3million, signing a four-year contract.
