The film is about the sheriff of the town of Rio Bravo, Texas, who arrests the brother of a powerful local rancher for murder and then must hold the man in jail until the arrival of the United States Marshall. With the help of a drunk and a young gunfighter, they hold off the rancher’s gang. Rio Bravo was deemed ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant’ by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. It was filmed on location at Old Tucson Studios outside Tucson, Arizona, in Technicolor. It is based on a short story by B. H. McCampbell, and the film was shot on location in Texas in 1959 and 1960. The movie was released on November 14, 1959. It has been released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Blu-Ray 2.0 on December 14, 2011.

The DVD version of the film is released on December 11, 2011, and will also be released on DVD on December 15, 2012, and on December 16, 2013. The Blu- ray version is available for pre-order on Amazon.com for $24.99. TheBlu-Ray version is also available on iTunes for $23.99 and on Amazon for $29.99 for the two-disc set of the movie, plus shipping and handling. The two-Disc set is available on Amazon and the iTunes combo pack for $39.99 with the bonus footage of “The Godfather” and “The Lord of the Flies” (both on sale on December 13, 2011). The movie is also out on DVD for $34.99, with a bonus clip of the “Godfather” (also on sale in the U.S. on December 12, 2011) and a deleted scene of the Godfather (on the same day as the movie). The film was released in 1959 on November 13, 1959, and is available in Blu-rays and DVD on November 16, 2011 for $35.99 (and $40.99 on December 17, 2012).
