Rey Mysterio

Óscar Gutiérrez was born and raised in Chula Vista, California. He began his professional wrestling career at age 14 in 1989. He is a three-time world champion, two-time Intercontinental Champion, and a four-time Tag Team Champion. He departed the company in 2015 and then wrestled on the independent circuit, before returning to WWE in 2018. He currently performs on the SmackDown brand under the ring name Rey Mysterio.

Summary Rey MysterioÓscar Gutiérrez was born and raised in Chula Vista, California. He began his professional wrestling career at age 14 in 1989. He is a three-time world champion, two-time Intercontinental Champion, and a four-time Tag Team Champion. He also won the 2006 Royal Rumble, and is the 21st Triple Crown and 21st Grand Slam winner in WWE history. He departed the company in 2015 and then wrestled on the independent circuit, before returning to WWE in 2018. He currently performs on the SmackDown brand under the ring name Rey Mysterio. He helped popularize the high-flying lucha libre wrestling style in WCW, which is credited with having also helped kick-start the emergence of cruiserweight wrestling in the United States. He has also won a number of championships during his time with the company, including the WCW Cruiserweight Championship and theWCW World Tag Team Championship. He made his debut in Mexico on April 30, 1989, when he was 14 years old. He was trained by his uncle Rey Misterio Sr. and wrestled early on in Mexico where he learned the Lucha Libre high flying style that has been his trademark. He had ring names such as La Lagartija Verde and Colibrí before his uncle gave him the name of Rey MisterIO Jr. He signed with Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1995. He wrestled his final bout for ECW at Big Ass Extreme Bash in March 1996. In early 1997, he feuded with Prince Prince Iaukea over the World Television Championship.

In August, he became involved in a feud with the New World Order, which culminated when he lost a Mexican Death match to nWo member Konnan at Road Wild Wild Wild. On November 10, 1997, on the Nitro episode of Nitro, he defeated Eddie Guerrero in a match for the second time to win the Cruiserweight title. He then lost the title to the real-life friend and Cruiserweight Champion Eddie Guerrero at Halloween Havoc. In March 1998, he lost his title match against Lord Steven Regal after he attacked him at SuperBrawl VII. In November, he also lost a rematch at Uncensored after Lord Steven regal attacked him in a rematch for the title. In April 1998, he defeated the real life Eddie Guerrero for a second time in a Match for the Mask of the Mask vs. Eddie Guerrero. In May 1998,  he defeated Psicosis in a number one contender’s match to earn another opportunity at the Cruiserweights title. The next night, on July 8 episode of WCW Monday Nitro,. he defeated Malenko to win his first cruiserweight Championship. He reigned as champion for three months, which included title defenses against the likes of Ultimate Dragon, Malenko, and Super Caló before he lost the titles to Malenko. In September 1998, Mysterio defeated Ultimate Dragon for the J-Crown Championship, but was unsuccessful in his match at World War 3.
