Nicholas Caradoc Hoult is an English actor. He made his screen debut at the age of seven in the 1996 film Intimate Relations. Hoult’s breakthrough role came when he portrayed Marcus Brewer in the 2002 comedy-drama film About a Boy. He earned wider recognition and praise for his performance as Tony Stonem in the E4 teen drama series Skins. He was cast as the mutant Hank McCoy in Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 superhero film X-Men: First Class, a role he reprised in later instalments of the series.

He has a son from his relationship with American model Bryana Holly. His paternal great-aunt was Dame Anna Neagle, a stage and film actress active in the 1930s and 1940s. He spent most of his childhood at his family’s residence in Sindlesham, an estate village in the borough of Wokingham, Berkshire. His older siblings were interested in acting and dancing from an early age, taking classes and attending auditions. He practised ballet with his sisters and took part in productions of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker with the English National Ballet.

He initially wanted to attain advanced level certificates in English, Biology, and Psychology, in 2002, at age 12, he decided instead to attend acting school at Sylvia Young Theatre School. His father was regularly working away from home and his brother was away attending school, so he grew up with his mother and sisters. He said being raised by women might have helped him \”steer clear of some pitfalls that guys who didn’t grow up with women would fall into\”. He has three siblings: an elder brother James, who is a United States-based biology student; and two sisters, Rosanna and Clarista, both of whom are television actors. His middle name is Welsh and translates to ‘The Beloved One’. He is married to American model Bryana Holly, with whom he has a young son, who was born in 2011. He appeared in a number of independent films before portraying various real-life figures such as Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford in the historical black comedy The Favourite and Peter III in the Hulu miniseries The Great. He later appeared in Silent Witness, The Bill, Judge John Deed and Judge Bill, among others. In March 2009, The Daily Telegraph reported that Hoult had an option to option a role in The Caucasian Chalk Circle with The Daily Mail. The DailyMail.com reported that the actor had agreed to a deal to appear in the television series Casualty.
