Michael Gerard Tyson is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. He reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. He is the only heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, as well as theonly heavyweight to unify them in succession. Tyson retired from professional boxing in 2006, after being stopped in consecutive matches against journeymen Danny Williams and Kevin McBride. In 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison, although he was released on parole after three years. His biological father was Jimmy Kirkpatrick, who left Tyson’s family when he was 10 years old. Tyson has an older brother named Rodney and an older sister named Denise, who died of a heart attack at age 24 in February 1990.

His father abandoned the family around the time Mike was born, leaving Mike in the care of the legal manager and boxing trainer Dato until he was 16-year-old. Tyson is married to his long-term girlfriend, former world champion and Olympic gold medalist, Toni Cevallos, and they have two children, a son and a daughter. Tyson also has a son, Michael Tyson, who is a professional boxer and a father-of-two. Tyson holds the record as the youngest boxer to win a heavyweight title, at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old. He holds the third longest unified championship reign in heavyweight boxing history at 8 consecutive defenses. He won the WBC title in 1986 after stopping Trevor Berbick in the second round, and added the WCA and WBA titles after defeating James Smith and Tony Tucker in 1987. In 1990, Tyson lost the titles to underdog Buster Douglas, who knocked him out in the tenth round. Tyson defeated Donovan Ruddock twice in 1991, but pulled out of a fight with then-undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield due to a rib injury. In 2002, Tyson fought for the world heavyweight title again at the age of 35, losing by knockout to Lennox Lewis.
