Mika Emilie Leonia Brzezinski Scarborough (born May 2, 1967) is an American journalist, talk show host, liberal political commentator, and author. She currently co-hosts MSNBC’s weekday morning broadcast show Morning Joe. She was formerly a CBS News correspondent, and was their principal \”Ground Zero\” reporter during the morning of the September 11 attacks.

She was formerly a CBS News correspondent, and was their principal \”Ground Zero\” reporter during the morning of the September 11 attacks. She and Joe Scarborough were married on November 24, 2018, with Rep. Elijah Cummings serving as the officiant. Her main political interest is in wage equality for women. She is also the author of three books; two on her career as a journalist and one on food addiction. Her father is diplomat and political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinksi, who served as adviser to both Lyndon B. Johnson and Jimmy Carter. Her brother, Mark Brzezin, is an U.S. diplomat and was the United States Ambassador to Sweden from 2011 to 2015. Her second brother is military expert Ian Brzeinszki, and she is a first cousin of the author Matthew Brzeiszki. Her mother, Emilie Anna Benešová, is a grandniece of Czechoslovakia’s former president Edvard Beneš. She attended the Madeira School and then enrolled at Georgetown University.

She graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1989. She worked for ABC’s World News This Morning in 1990. In 1997, she left that role to join CBS News, where she served as a correspondent and as anchor for the overnight Up to the Minute news program. In 2001, she began a short hiatus from CBS News. She returned to MSNBC on January 26, 2007, doing the evening news updates. She also filed occasional reports for NBC Nightly News and appeared as an occasional anchor on Weekend Today. She resigned from both shows on the eve of a renewal option to join Morning Joe in 2007. In June 2007, she appeared as a news reader on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, alongside Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist. On the beginning of the morning show, she refused to read a report about Paris Hilton’s release from jail from another news break. One hour later, she was pushed again as the lead news reader and read the story again. She said, ‘I was not pleased with the reference to being ‘hot anchor’  ‘Since the inception of the program’s morning program Morning Joe’
