Whitman later moved on to work as a consultant at Bain & Company. She rose through the ranks to achieve the position of senior vice president. Whitman became vice president of strategic planning at The Walt Disney Company in 1989. As Hasbro’s General Manager, starting in January 1997, she oversaw global management and marketing of children’s brands Mr. Potato Head and Teubbies. She imported the UK’s children’s television show Teubbie into the U.K. in March 1998. Whitman joined eBay in 1998, when it had 30 employees and revenues of approximately USD 4million. During her time as CEO, the company grew to more than 15,000 employees and USD 8billion in annual revenue. In 2010, she spent more than USD 144 million on the 2010 California gubernatorial election, including money from donors. She won the Republican primary and was defeated by Democratic former Governor Jerry Brown in the 2010 gubernatorial election by 54% to 41%. Whitman is also the great- granddaughter of General Henry S. Huidekoper, a General in Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia.
