Matt Lucas

Matthew Richard Lucas is an English actor, comedian, writer, and television personality. He is best known for his work with David Walliams on the BBC sketch comedy series Rock Profile, Little Britain, and Come Fly With Me. Lucas played the role of Nardole in the BBC series Doctor Who. He has also appeared in films, such as The Infidel, Alice in Wonderland, Bridesmaids, and Small Apartments.

Lucas has had alopecia since childhood, losing all of his hair at the age of six. When Lucas was 22, his father died of a heart attack at the aged of 52. Lucas was educated at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, the same school attended by comic actors David Baddiel and Sacha Baron Cohen. He studied at the University of Bristol between 1993 and 1995. Lucas’s association with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer began in 1992. He appeared in The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer in 1995, and went on to star with them in Shooting Stars.

In 2005, he took his first role in a television drama, a supporting part as a Venetian duke in BBC historical serial Casanova, written by Russell T Davies. Since 2006, Lucas has been the voice of the radio and television character Dig Al, devised of a public information campaign on digital switchover. He made a cameo appearance in Shaun of the Dead, originally by The Proclaimers, with Peter Kay as a single for Comic Relief. He also starred as Mr Toad in The Windows, a 2006 television adaptation of the Kenneth Grahame novel The Wind Willows, as well as a cameo in Kath & Kim & Neighbours. In 2007, he performed as Andy Pipkin in the single ‘Jammy’ by Peter Kay, along with Brian Kay playing the character of Brian Potter. His music video appearances include the Damien Hirst-directed video for Blur’s \”Country House\”, by Ben Folds in 2005, and \”I’m with Stupid\” by the Pet Shop Boys, and ‘Vindaloo’ by Fat Les.
