Kahaani

Kahaani is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language mystery thriller film co-written, co-produced and directed by Sujoy Ghosh. It stars Vidya Balan as Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant woman searching for her missing husband in Kolkata during the festival of Durga Puja. Kahaani explores themes of feminism and motherhood in male-dominated Indian society. A spiritual successor, titled KahaANI 2: Durga Rani Singh, was released on 2 December 2016.

It has been described as one of the best thrillers of all time by critics and audiences alike. It is also known as the most memorable Indian film of the year, and is one of India’s most watched films of the last few years, according to Box Office India.

The movie is based on a true story of a woman’s search for her husband during the Durga puja festival. The plot involves the murder of a police officer and an assassin working undercover as a life insurance agent by a rogue IB agent. It was released worldwide in March 2012 and has been praised for its screenplay, the cinematography and the performances of the lead actors. It received four National Awards, including Best Director, Best Actress and Best Actor for Balan and Sinha for Vidya Bagchi and Rana Sinha for their roles in the film. The sequel was released in December 2016 and has received four Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Bharat Pathak and Best Supporting Actor for Rani Sanskar. The spiritual successor, KahaANI 2: Durga Puja Singh, was released on 2 December 2016 and won four National Award for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress for Sancheskar for her performance in the second part of the film, Ranbir Singh. The third part of the film was released in October 2014 and won three National Awards for Best Supporting Acts for Sanskar and Best Actress for Balan. The fourth award was for Best Actor for Rani for the second part of the movie.
