Jameis Lanaed Winston is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles and as a redshirt freshman became the youngest player to win the Heisman Trophy. Winston also played on Florida State’s baseball team. He was drafted as the first overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft. After the season the Bucs chose not to re-sign Winston, and he signed a one-year deal with the Saints.

Winston set franchise rookie records in several categories, including passing touchdowns, and became just the third rookie in NFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards. He finished his career 26–1 as a starter and completed 562 of 562 passes for 764 yards, 65 touchdowns and 65 interceptions. He also led the league in interceptions and total turnovers, and set an NFL record for pick-sixes thrown in a season, including one on his final throw of the year. Winston was considered the best dual-threat quarterback recruit in the nation by Rivals. com, and the best overall quarterback recruit by ESPN. Winston led Hueytown High School in Alabama to the state championship as a junior. He won the Gatorade Player of the Year recognition for the state of Alabama during his junior year. The Texas Rangers selected Winston in the 15th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of high school. Winston chose to play football for Florida State in part because he was allowed to play for the baseball team in addition to football.

He chose to switch to football because he wanted to be able to play both sports at the same time. Winston won the 2013 Heisman Trophy and was named a Consensus All-American. In his sophomore and final year, the Seminoles advanced to the Rose Bowl, part of the College Football Playoff, and would win the game 59–20 against Oregon. Winston finished in sixth place in the voting in 2014 Heisman Trophy voting. He is the son of former NFL player Jim Winston and his wife, Jameis “Jamei” Winston, a former Miss Florida State and Miss Alabama. Winston is the brother of former Florida State quarterback and current Florida State University head coach Jimbo Fisher. He has a son, Travyon Winston, who is also a professional football quarterback. Winston has two children, Jamel Winston and Travon Winston. He currently lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and their three children. The couple have a son and a daughter who was born in February 2013. Winston’s father, Jimbo Winston, is a former NFL quarterback who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets. Winston played in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game and won the Offensive MVP of the game after passing for 235 yards with two touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin with 13 seconds left. On January 6, 2014, Winston’s 20th birthday, Florida State defeated Auburn 34–31 in the2014 BCSNational Championship Game.
