About Hummer in brief

In 1998, General Motors purchased the brand name from AM General and marketed three vehicles: the original Hummer H1, based on the military Humvee, as well as the new H2 and H3 models that were based on smaller, civilian-market GM platforms. By 2008, Hummer’s viability in the economic downturn was being questioned, and it was placed under review by GM management. In 2009, a Chinese manufacturer, Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company, announced that it would acquire Hummer, pending government approvals, but later withdrew its bid. After filling a rental-car fleet order, the last Hummer H3 rolled off the line at Shreveport on May 24, 2010. On January 30, 2020, GM released a series of short teaser videos revealing the return of HUMMER. The teasers confirm the nameplate’s return—this time not as a separate brand, but as two models, an electric pickup truck and SUV, to be sold under the GMC brand as the \”GMC Hummer EV\”. According to the teasers, the production EV will feature 1,000 horsepower, hit 60 mph in 3 seconds and is scheduled to launch in fall 2021. While the new HUMMER EV was scheduled to be revealed on May 20, 2020,.

concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic have forced the revealing to be pushed back to October 20th, 2020. Multiple trims will be available over the next few years. AM General continued to build the H1 until it was discontinued in 2006, and was contracted by GM to produce the H2. On October 10, 2006, GM began producing 33 military Hummers at its Port Elizabeth plant in South Africa for international markets. On June 3, 2008, GM’s CEO Rick Wagoner said that the possibility of the brand being reviewed was being reviewed, and that Hummer was being considered as a possibility. The manufacturer of the Hummers H1 and H2, AM General, lost their bid to built the HMMWV’s replacement for the U.S. military in 2015, to Oshkosh Corporation. The first two Hummers to be sales were purchased by Schwarzenegger. The civilian model began in part because of the persistence of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who saw an Army convoy while filming Kindergarten Cop in Oregon and began to campaign and lobby for a civilian versions to be available on the market. The H3 was built in Shreveports, LA alongside the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups, with which it shared the GMT-355 platform.
