Hugh Freeze

Danny Hugh Freeze Jr. is an American football coach at Liberty University. He was the head coach at Lambuth University from 2008 to 2009, Arkansas State University in 2011, and the University of Mississippi from 2012 to 2016. He resigned from Ole Miss in 2017 after officials discovered that he had used a university cellphone to call escort services multiple times over the course of five years. Freeze is married to former U.S. Air Force First Lieutenant and mother-of-two Sarah Hughley Freeze.

Freeze has denied allegations of inappropriate conduct with female students while at Briarcrest Christian School, where he also coached the girls basketball team. He received Region 8-AA Coach of the Year honors five times and Associated Press Coach of The Year honors six times as a high school football coach in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Senatobia High School and University of Southern Mississippi, and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a minor in coaching and sports administration. He has a son, Danny Hugh Freeze III, who is a junior at Liberty and a senior at Arkansas State. He also has a daughter, Sarah Hugh Freeze, who plays for the Arkansas State Red Wolves women’s football team.

Freeze is married to former U.S. Air Force First Lieutenant and mother-of-two Sarah Hughley Freeze. His son is currently the head football coach of Liberty University’s men’s team, which he has been in since 2013. Freeze’s son is also a junior in the U.N. National Football League, playing for the San Francisco 49ers and the San Diego 49ers. His daughter is the former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies women’s basketball team, where she has been since 2008. Freeze also has two children, Danny Freeze III and Sarah Hughly Freeze, both of whom play for the Memphis Red Wolves football team, and a son-in-law, Justin Freeze, the head coaching coach at Memphis City College. Freeze previously worked as the offensive coordinator at San Jose State University. In 2010, he joined the staff of head coach Steve Roberts as offensive coordinator, joining the program after spending less than two months, during the 2009-2010 offseason, as offensive coordinators. In 2011, Freeze was promoted to head coach and led the Red Wolves to a 10–2 record and the Sun Belt Conference title.
