But six-year-old Cindy Lou who believes that everyone is missing the point about Christmas by focusing too much on the gifts and festivities and too little on the personal relationships. Cindy nominates Grinch to be the town’s holiday Cheermeister, much to the displeasure of Augustus May who publicly proposes marriage to Martha and gives her a gaudy engagement ring. Cindy climbs to Mount Crumpsit to invite the Grinches to the celebration and he eventually accepts. He steals all of the gifts, decorations and food and stuffing them all in a large sack before pushing the sack off the side of the mountain. Finally fed up with the Whos’ Christmas, he concocts a plan to crush the spirit by stealing all of their presents and food while they’re sleeping. He disguises himself as Santa Claus and dresses himself as a reindeer. The first time he enters Cindy’s house is when she catches him stealing their tree, allowing him to escape. The second time is when he is horrified to discover the theft and lies to Cindy’s parents, who are horrified and blame the Mayor May who gives him an electric razor as a present. He burns down the tree and goes on a rampage before returning home to Mt Crumpits home. He eventually accepts Cindy Lou’s invitation to the party and becomes the CheerMeister, but the Mayor spoils everything by giving him a present reminding him of his childhood humiliation.
