Grant Imahara

Grant Masaru Imahara was an American electrical engineer, roboticist, television host, and actor. He was best known for his work on the television series MythBusters. His work has been featured in films from franchises such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, and Terminator. He died on July 13, 2020, at the age of 49, after suffering a ruptured intracranial aneurysm.

He was best known for his work on the television series MythBusters, on which he designed and built numerous robots and specialized in operating computers and electronics to test myths. His work has been featured in films from franchises such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, and Terminator. He died on July 13, 2020, at the age of 49, after suffering a ruptured intracranial aneurysm. He starred in the 2016 Netflix series White Rabbit Project alongside his MythBuster co-stars Kari Byron and Tory Belleci. The series was released on the Netflix streaming service December 9, 2016, but the series was not renewed. He also made a cameo appearance on BattleBots, where he competed with his robot Deadblow.

By 2018, he was selected as one of the judges for the eighth season of the web series Eureka. He appeared on Syfy’s The Guild and the webseries The Guild: Energizer Bunny; leading Team ILM to victory in an appearance on Junkyard Mega-Wars; as well as authoring Kickin’ Botin’ Illustrated: An Illustrated Guide to Building Robots. He designed the animatronic ‘robot skeleton’ Geoff Peterson to serve as a sidekick on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson; he also designed the robot skeleton for The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien; he was a mentor for the team of Richmond Biomechs #841 for the FIRST Robotics Competition. He worked as an engineer for Lucasfilm’s THX division and in the Industrial Light & Magic division in visual effects.
