In 2017, he received an Ivor Novello Award, the Inspiration Award, from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors. Numan was born in Hammersmith, London, on 8 March 1958. He played in various bands, including Mean Street and the Lasers, before forming Tubeway Army with his uncle, Jess Lidyard, and Paul Gardiner. He joined the Air Training Corps as a teenager and then briefly held various jobs including forklift truck driver, air conditioning ventilator fitter, and accounts clerk. He later picked the surname \”Numan\” from an advert in the Yellow pages for a plumber whose surname was \”Neumann\”. Numan came to prominence at the mid of the 1970s as lead singer and songwriter for TubewayArmy. He released his debut solo album The Pleasure Principle in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart. In 1980, Numan topped the UK Singles Chart with the singles \”I Die: Die Die: You Are Glass,’ ‘We Are Glass’, and ‘This Wreckage’.

He embarked on his second major tour with an elaborate stage show even more elaborate than the previous year’s Tour. He also released the album You Die Die You Die, which featured a wider range of synthesisers and featured a more elaborate stage set than his previous work. Numans has been married to his wife of 20 years, Tanya, since 2007. He and his wife have two children, a son, and a daughter. He currently lives in London with his wife and two children. He lives with his family in a house he built in the Surrey countryside. He recently moved to a new home with his partner, a former school teacher, and has a daughter, a daughter and a son. The couple have a son and a step-son. He had a son with a girlfriend, who is also a singer-songwriter and has released two albums under his own stage name, including a number of albums under the name “Gary Numan”. The pair have three children, all of whom are currently living in the U.S. and Canada. The family has three grandchildren, and Numan has two step-daughters, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. He was married to Tanya in 2008. He previously lived in London and a second home in Surrey, and now lives in the US with his daughter and his son.
