Fredua Koranteng Adu is an American soccer player who plays for Österlen FF. He was selected by D.C. United as the number one overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. He is the youngest player in MLS history to score a goal, and the youngest in Major League Soccer history to receive a goal-scoring award. He won the MLS Cup with United in 2006. He previously played for Dutch club FC Nordsjaerland, and also played for the Netherlands, Portugal and Monaco.

At the age of 14, Adu became the youngest American ever to sign a major league professional contract in any team sport. Adu was born and raised in Tema, Ghana, where he played soccer against men three times his age. He was selected by D. C. United as the number one overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. In his first season as a pro, he finished the year with five goals and three assists, while playing in all 30 regular season games. In 2006, he became a journeyman, playing for fifteen teams in nine countries: the United States, Portugal, Monaco, Greece, Turkey, Brazil, Serbia, Finland, and Sweden. In 2010, he was selected to the MLS All-Star team twice, once as a captain and again as a first-choice midfielder. He is also the youngest player in MLS history to score a goal, and the youngest in Major League Soccer history to receive a goal-scoring award. He became a U.S. citizen in February 2003, and in February 2013, he married his long-term girlfriend. He has two children, a son and a daughter with his wife, who was born in Ghana, and an older daughter with whom he has a son, who is also a professional soccer player. He also has a stepson, a daughter, and a son-in-law who are both professional soccer players, as well as a daughter who is a professional football player.

In 2011, he had a trial with English club Manchester United, but he was not able to gain a work permit and so could not play in any competitive games. He now plays for Swedish Division 1 club Österled FF. He won the MLS Cup with D.C. United in 2006. He had been chosen to take spot kicks during the penalty shootouts during D. c. United’s two penalty shootout games against the New York Red Bulls in the 2006 MLS Cup final, but was suspended for one game for complaining about playing time in the media. In 2012, he played in the MLS Champions League final against the Real Salt Lake, scoring one goal and assisting one in the process. In 2014, he signed a two-year contract with Swedish side FC Sundsvall. In 2015, he joined Swedish side Fortuna Sveriges FC, playing in the Europa League and the Champions League qualifiers. In 2016, he moved to Swedish club FC Vitesse Arnhem in the second division of the Swedish league. He currently lives in Sweden and plays for the club’s second division, the Ljubljana Lyn. In 2009, he won the European Champions League with FC Sundvans FC, scoring two goals and assisting two more in the tournament. He previously played for Dutch club FC Nordsjaerland, and has also played for the Netherlands, Portugal and Monaco.
