Francisco Muniz IV is an American actor, race-car driver and musician. He is best known for playing the title character in the Fox television family sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. Muniz is also known for his film roles in Deuces Wild, Big Fat Liar, Agent Cody Banks, and Racing Stripes. In 2008, Muniz put his acting career on hold to pursue an open-wheel racing career, and competed in the Atlantic Championship.

His father is Puerto Rican, of Spanish descent, and his mother is of Italian and Irish descent. He has an elder sister, Cristina. He was discovered at the age of eight, at a talent show in Raleigh, North Carolina, in a local production of A Christmas Carol, cast as Tiny Tim. He appeared in commercials and made his film debut in the made-for-television movie To Dance with Olivia, starring Lou Gossett Jr. In 2003, he made a cameo appearance as Cher’s underage boyfriend in Stuck on You. Ten days later, he appeared in the horror movie Stay Alive, which played his father Harvey Keitel. He expressed a desire to leave a traditional film career behind in order to pursue a full-time car driving career in Formula One.

In May 2006, he began filming an independent film, The Sexiest Year of the Year, in which he played Harvey Keittel’s father. He made a guest appearance as himself in an episode of the Fox comedy Arrested Development in April 2006. He also played the title role in the film Agents of Cody Banks, which opened in March 2003, and grossed USD 47 million. He trained in martial arts for the films, and performed most of his own stunts. In March 2008, he announced that he would be taking a break from acting to focus on his racing career in the BMW Formula One Championship. He won the title of the Championship in May 2008, and finished second in the race the following year. In 2010, he won the Championship again, this time in the F1 Grand Prix. In 2011, he finished third in the Formula One Grand Prix, which he won with a total of $1.2 million. In 2012, he became the first African-American man to win the Grand Prix in the history of Formula One, beating Michael Schumacher in the final race. In 2013, he also won the Grand prix.
