In May 2013, the club began the construction of the 35,074-seat KrasNodar Stadium which was opened on 9 October 2016. The team’s first official match was a 0–0 draw against FC Nika Krasny Sulin in February 2008. In 2009, the team was promoted to the Russian First Division, the second highest division of the Russian football league system. At the end of the 2010 season, they were promoted again to the Premier League for the 2011 season, despite finishing fifth in the first division. In August 2013, Belarusian coach Oleg Kononov was named manager of the club. In November 2013, FC Kras nodar advanced to the UEFA Europa League for first time in its history, joining the top-five Premier League clubs for the 2014–15 season. The first match between the two teams marked the first Premier League derby not involving Moscow-based clubs, with FC Kuban winning the first match 0–1.

In the second match, FC Kuba won the game 0–2, though the team’s overall performance in this season had been more successful compared to previous year. In January 2011, the Russian Football Union awarded the club a top- five finish, making it eligible to compete in the Europa League in 2014 for the first time. In December 2010, FC Krasnadar signed a contract with Serbian manager Slavoljub Muslin. In July 2012, the board of directors decided to terminate Muslin’s contract because the club stopped investing into the club to improve its performance on the pitch. In April 2013, Artur Jędrzejczyk and Andreas Granqvist were appointed as new manager and coach of the team, respectively. In June 2013,  FC Granqvist and Andreas Granqvzyk were named manager and player, respectively, of the 2013–14 season.
