He began his career at Sheffield United, making his senior debut on loan at Stalybridge Celtic in December 2014. In August 2016 he joined Everton for a fee of £1. 5 million. He was part of the England under-20 team that won the 2017 World Cup, scoring in the final. In May 2017, he signed a five-year contract with Everton, keeping him at the club until 2022. At the end of the 2016-17 season, he finished his first season with 11 appearances and scoring once in all competitions. He scored the winner for Everton in their third Europa League qualifying round second leg against Slovakian side MFK Ružomberok on 3 August 2017. He made his international debut for England on 8 October 2020, and subsequently scored in a 3–0 friendly win against Wales at Wembley Stadium.

He has also been named in the League Football Education’s ‘The 11’ list of the best young players in the country. He is currently on a season-long loan at League Two side Northampton Town. He also plays for Conference North side StalyBridge Celtic and the Football League Youth Cup side Sheffield United. He signed a new long-term deal with Sheffield United in early April 2015, to keep him at Bramall Lane until summer 2018. In December 2014, he made his debut for the club in a 1–1 draw away at Leyton Orient as a 66th-minute substitute. In January 2015, he scored twice on his debut, in a 4–2 win at Hyde United and scored against them again in the reverse fixture on 1 January, in the 7–1 win. On 7 August 2015, Calvert Lewin joined League Two team Northampton Town on loan until January. Despite being keen to extend his loan, he had made 26 appearances and scored 8 times across all competitions for the club.
