As of 2020, the case remains unsolved. In June 2019, a former police detective suggested that the Mr Kipper entry might have been a cover story. In October 2018, police began searching the former home of John Cannan in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.

In July 2019, police announced that the search of the property had ended and no evidence had been found. The Suzy Lam Plugh Trust is a charitable foundation that was established in December 1986 by Suzy’s parents, Paul and Diana.
