Diane Cilento was an Australian actress and author. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the 1963 film Tom Jones. Her film career declined after her marriage to actor Sean Connery. She died of cancer at Cairns Base Hospital, Queensland, on 6 October 2011.

Her film career declined after her marriage to actor Sean Connery. She died of cancer at Cairns Base Hospital, Queensland, on 6 October 2011. In her 2005 autobiography My Nine Lives, she alleged that Connery had abused her mentally and physically during their relationship.

In 2006, Connery cancelled an appearance at the Scottish Parliament because of the controversy, and said he had been misquoted and that any abuse of women was unacceptable. In 2001, she was awarded the Centenary Medal for \”distinguished service to the arts, especially theatre\”. She was the fifth of six children, four of whom became medical practitioners.
