He was ranked the consensus No. 6 overall recruit in the Class of 2016 by the four main recruiting services: Rivals, ESPN, Scout, and 247Sports. He committed to Kentucky on November 12, 2015, live on ESPNU. On June 22, 2017, Fox was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Kings. He made his NBA debut for the Kings in their season opener against the Houston Rockets on October 18, 2017. On January 6, 2018, Fox recorded a career-high 19 points, 4 assist, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals in a 117–115 loss against the Phoenix Suns. He also scored 14 points and 7 assists in a 106–98 victory over the Denver Nuggets on January 25, 2018.

Fox is a member of the Houston Hoops on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Circuit where he earned EYBL first-team honors during the summer. He is also part of the USA Men’s Basketball Men’s Junior Team and the NBPA Top 100 camp. He has also played in the Nike Hoop Summit Games and the NBA Summer League. Fox has been named a McDonald’s All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NACB) and the NACB Player of the Year by the NBA Players Association (NBAPA) for the 2016-17 season. The Sacramento Kings are currently in their second season in the NBA and Fox has made his debut in their 18th game of the season against the New Orleans Pelicans on October 23. He signed his rookie scale contract with the Kings on July 8, 2017; he is currently on a two-year deal.
