He was best known for his role as Keith Partridge, the son of Shirley Partridge, in the 1970s musical-sitcom The Partridge Family. Cassidy’s father, Jack, is credited with setting his son up with his first manager, Ruth Aarons. In the midst of his rise to fame, Cassidy felt stifled by the show and trapped by the mass hysteria surrounding his every move. In May 1972, to alter his public image, he appeared nude on the cover of Rolling Stone in a cropped Annie Leibovitz photo;: 167 among other things, the accompanying Rolling Stone article mentioned that Cassidy was riding around New York in the back of a car’stoned and drunk’ Cassidy achieved far greater solo chart success in the UK than his native America. In Britain, he remains best known as the star of the double A-side single ‘Daydreamer’ – two UK number one hits and two number two ones in the U.S. His solo albums were produced by Tengum, who produced The Tengums, and five solo albums by Cassidy, all of which were released during his 1972–73 solo chart peak. He died of a heart attack at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife, two children, and a stepson. He had three half-brothers, Shaun, Patrick, and Ryan, and one half-sister, Shaun Jones. Cassidy was married to actress and singer Shirley Jones until his death in 1995.

He also had a son, Patrick Cassidy, with whom he had a daughter, Shannon Cassidy, who is also a singer-songwriter. Cassidy died in a car accident in 2007; he was buried at Mount Sinai Cemetery in New York City, New York. His son Shaun Cassidy, a former NFL player, was also a former football player, and played for the New York Yankees. Cassidy had a brother, Shaun Cassidy-Jones, who was a member of the New Jersey State Football team. Cassidy also had two half- brothers, Patrick and Ryan Cassidy, both of whom played football for the University of California, Los Angeles. Cassidy is the father of Shaun Jones-Jones and Patrick Cassidy-Ward, and the grandfather of Ryan Cassidy-Jackson, who played the role of Ryan in the film “The Godfather” (1998). He was also the uncle of Patrick Jones-Smith, who starred in the TV series “American Idol” (2000) and “The X-Files” (2001). Cassidy had three children with actress Evelyn Ward; he had one daughter, Cassidy-Smith-Jones. Cassidy has a son with actress/singer-singer Toni Garrn; he also has a daughter with actress Toniara Garrn, who appeared in the television series “The Voice” (2002) “David Cassidy” was released as a single on September 14, 1998. “The David Cassidy Show” is a biopic of the life of David Cassidy, which airs on PBS.
