Following India’s independence from British Government in 1947, its members served as the nation’s first Parliament. The Assembly was not elected on the basis of universal adult suffrage, and Muslims and Sikhs received special representation as minorities. The constitution was drafted by 299 delegates from different caste, region religion, gender etc. These delegates sat over 114 days spread over 3 years and discussed what the constitution should contain and what laws should be included. The first Assembly expressed the hope of Jawahru: The first task of this Assembly is to free India through a new constitution, to give the naked masses the opportunity to develop themselves according to their capacity. But at the greatest and most important question in India is how to solve the problem of the poor and starving. Where we are confronted with these quarrels and feuds, unfortunately we sometimes cannot avoid them, and unfortunately, unfortunately, we are called to solve them. We are sitting here in despair in many cities and many places, and many cities in India are surcharged with quarrels, and quarrels which are called communal feuds and communal quarrels. We, the people of India, are sitting in despair, and there is a great atmosphere of unrest and unrest in many places. We must try to find a solution to the problems of the present and the future of our country, and we will try to do so.

We will try and find a way to free the naked people, and to feed the starving masses, and clothe the poor, and every Indian according to his capacity to develop himself. We need to work hard and together we can make a difference to the lives of all people of this country. We owe it to each other to try and do this. We want to make India a better place to live and work and to live in, and for all of our children and grandchildren. We hope to do this together with all our hearts and minds and all of the resources we have at our disposal. Let us work together to make a better India. We believe in a better world for all people, for all races and all religions and all walks of life. Let’s work together towards a better, freer, more peaceful, more prosperous, more just and just India. I believe in this. I am committed to the cause of a just and fair India. Let me work with all of you to make it a better and better country. I will work with you to achieve this. I believe that this is the only way forward for India.
