Colin Farrell

Colin James Farrell is an Irish actor. He appeared in the BBC drama Ballykissangel in 1998. Farrell made his film debut in the Tim Roth-directed drama The War Zone in 1999. He was discovered by Hollywood when Joel Schumacher cast him as the lead in the war drama Tigerland in 2000. He then played the outlaw Jesse James in the film American Outlaws with a young ensemble cast. In 2014, Farrell starred as Peter Lake in the supernatural fable Winter’s Tale. In 2015, he starred as Detective Ray Velcoro in the second season of HBO’s True Detective. In 2016, he played Percival Graves in the Harry Potter spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

He also played Travers Goff in the Tom HanksEmma Thompson quasi-biopic Saving Mr. Banks playing the quixotic father of “Mary Poppins” author P. L. Travers. Farrell was inspired to try acting when Henry Thomas’ performance in E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial moved him to tears. He unsuccessfully auditioned for the Irish musical group Boyzone around this time. He attended the Gaiety School of Acting, but dropped out when he was cast as Danny Byrne on Bally Kissangel, a BBC drama about a young English priest who becomes part of an Irish rural community. His father played football for Shamrock Rovers FC and ran a health food shop. His uncle, Tommy Farrell, also played for Shamrocks FC and his brother, Eamon, Jr., and two sisters, Claudine and Catherine, Claudine works as his personal assistant. Farrell was educated at St. Brigid’s National School, followed by secondary school at Castleknock College, an exclusive all boys private school and then Gormanston College in County Meath. He is the son of Rita and Eamon Farrell, and has an older brother and a younger sister, Catherine. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children,  Catherine Farrell and Eamon Farrell  Jr. and Claudine Ferrari. He has a son, Colin, Jr., and a daughter, Caitlin.
