It won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and three Saturn Awards: Best Horror Film, Best make-up, and Best Supporting Actress for Sylvia Sidney. The financial success of the film made Burton a successful director and he began working as a director on Big Adventure and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in response to the success of Beetlejuice. The movie was released on November 25, 1988, by Warner Bros. Pictures and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is now considered one of the most successful films of the 1980s and 1990s. It has been released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Blu-Ray 2.0 on December 17, 2008. The DVD version of the movie is released on December 21, 2008, and the Blu- ray 2.1 version on December 28, 2008,. The Blu- Ray 2.2 version is also released on DVD on December 29, 2008 and the DVD 2.3 version on January 10, 2009.
