The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over five of Australia’s six states, although there has been a lot of support for a team to be moved to or created in Tasmania. About Australian Football League in brief

Summary Australian Football LeagueThe Australian Football League is the pre-eminent and only fully professional men’s competition of Australian rules football. It was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over five of Australia’s six states, although there has been a lot of support for a team to be moved to or created in Tasmania. Matches have been played in all states and mainland territories of Australia, as well as in New Zealand and China to promote the sport abroad. The AFL season consists of a 23-round regular season, which runs during the Australian winter. The top eight teams then play off in a four-round finals series, culminating in the AFL Grand Final, which is held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground each year. The grand final winner is termed the \”premiers\”, and is awarded the premiership cup. The current premiers are Richmond. In 1952, the VFL hosted a national day when all six matches were played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with all six teams playing outside Melbourne. In 1950, Footscray became the first VFL team to win four successive premierships and became a powerhouse during the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1970s, Melbourne became the only VFL club to win the four successive Premierships during the 1925-1930 period. Between the 1925 and 1930 years, Collingwood became only the first team, and only the fourth overall, to win three successive successive titles.

In 2008, the league expanded to ten teams, with Richmond crossing from the VFA and University Football Club from the Metropolitan Football Association to become the first expansion side to win a premiership. In 2010, the AFL expanded from nine teams to twelve, with Footscrays, Hawthorn and North Melbourne each crossing from VFA. In 2011, the League expanded to 15 teams, and the AFL Commission became the sport’s governing body, and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. It is the only Australian football league that is not based on a state or territory, and has a national governing body that is based in Melbourne, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart. It also has a regional governing body based in Perth, Perth and Adelaide. In 2012, it was announced that the AFL would be the first Australian football competition to be based in Tasmania, with a team based in Hobart, Melbourne and Perth. In 2013, a team was announced for Tasmania, but the team has yet to be confirmed. In 2014, the Australian Football Association announced that it would not be playing in the Tasmanian Football League in the 2015 season. In 2015, it announced that a Tasmanian team would play in the Australian Women’s Football League (AFL) for the first time in the next two years. In 2016, the AFL Commission announced it would be moving to Tasmania.
