Apollo 9

Apollo 9 was a March 1969 human spaceflight, the third in NASA’s Apollo program. It was the second crewed Apollo mission that the United States launched via a Saturn V rocket. The three-man crew consisted of Commander James McDivitt, Command Module Pilot David Scott, and Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart. During the ten-day mission, they tested systems and procedures critical to landing on the Moon.

About Apollo 9 in brief

Summary Apollo 9Apollo 9 was a March 1969 human spaceflight, the third in NASA’s Apollo program. It was the second crewed Apollo mission that the United States launched via a Saturn V rocket. The three-man crew consisted of Commander James McDivitt, Command Module Pilot David Scott, and Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart. During the ten-day mission, they tested systems and procedures critical to landing on the Moon, including the LM engines, backpack life support systems, navigation systems and docking maneuvers. After launching on March 3, 1969, the crew performed the first crewed flight of a lunar module, the first docking and extraction of the same, one two-person spacewalk, and the second docking of two crewed spacecraft. The mission concluded on March 13 and was a complete success. It proved the LM worthy of crewed space flight, setting the stage for the dress rehearsal for the lunar landing, Apollo 10, before the ultimate goal, landing onThe Moon. In 1967, NASA had adopted a series of lettered missions leading up to the crewed lunar landing. Apollo 8 was the D mission with Apollo 9 the E mission, testing in medium Earth orbit. The crew who would be the first astronauts to land on the moon, Pete Conrad, made the second attempt on Apollo 11 instead of Pete Conrad’s crew on Apollo 12. This put Neil Armstrong in position to make the first attempt on the Apollo 11 landing instead of Neil Armstrong, who was made the backup crew for Apollo 11.

Apollo 12 was the first manned mission to orbit the Earth and return to Earth after a mission to the moon in 1969. Apollo 11 was the last mission to test the lunar module before it was used in the Apollo 17 mission in 1969 and the first mission to return to the Earth after the Apollo 8 mission in 1972. Apollo 9 was the final mission to fly the command and service module with the Lunar Module before the Apollo 12 mission in 1973. Apollo 10 was the third and final Apollo mission to go into space, and was the only one to fly with a crew of three. The final mission was the Apollo 10 mission, which took place on July 27, 1969. The last Apollo mission was Apollo 11 on July 28, 1973, and the last one was Apollo 12 on July 31, 1973. The Apollo 11 mission was followed by the Apollo 13 mission on July 26, 1974, and Apollo 14 on July 29, 1975. Apollo 15 was the fourth and final mission, and it was the fifth mission to launch the Apollo lunar module. Apollo 16 was the sixth and final flight of the Apollo spacecraft. Apollo 17 was the seventh and final test of the command module, with the final flight taking place on August 14, 1975, and ending on August 18, 1975 with the Apollo 18 mission. Apollo 18 was the ninth and final manned mission, launching on August 20, 1976. Apollo 19 was the eighth and final crewed mission, with a mission that was scheduled to launch on August 21, 1977. Apollo 20 was the tenth and last manned mission.
