Ann Lennox OBE is a Scottish singer-songwriter, political activist and philanthropist. She and fellow musician Dave Stewart achieved international success in the 1980s as Eurythmics. Lennox embarked on a solo career in 1992 with her debut album, Diva. She has released six solo studio albums and a compilation album, The Annie Lennox Collection. She performed at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London.

She and fellow musician Dave Stewart achieved international success in the 1980s as Eurythmics. Lennox embarked on a solo career in 1992 with her debut album, Diva. She has released six solo studio albums and a compilation album, The Annie Lennox Collection. In addition to her career as a musician, Lennox is also a political and social activist, notable for raising money and awareness for HIV AIDS as it affects women and children in Africa. She was named one of The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone. In 2012, she was rated No. 22 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music. She performed at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London. She is the first woman to be made a fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. In 2017 she was appointed Glasgow Caledonian University’s first female chancellor. Her vocal range is contralto and she has sold over 80 million records worldwide. Her first collaboration with Dave Stewart was The Tourists, a British pop band. Her second collaboration with Stewart and Lennox was the synth-pop duo Eurymics, the second collaboration, the 1980’s The Early Faces. She won a place at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied the flute, piano and harpsichord for three years. She also played flute with a Scottish Scottish band called Dragon’s Playground.

In 1976 she was a member of The New Faces, a Scottish new wave band. In 1982 she was the lead singer of a Scottish pop band called New Faces. In 2003 she was named the Best British Female Artist at the Brit Awards. In 2006 she was made an honorary Fellow of the Royal academy of Music and Drama. In 2011 she was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for her tireless charity campaigns and championing of humanitarian causes. On 4 June 2012 she performed in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in front of Buckingham Palace. In 2004, she received both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Song for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. As of June 2008, including her work with Eurynics, she had sold over 70 million records worldwide and has been named the most successful female British artist in UK music history. She received a Billboard Century Award; the highest accolade from Billboard magazine. In 2002 she received four Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award. Her 1995 studio album, Medusa, includes ‘No More I Love You’s’ and ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ She has been awarded eight Brit Awards, including being named the ‘Brits Champion of Champions’ a record six times. In 2008, she performed as part of a one-hour symphony of British Music at the London 2012 Summer Olympic closing ceremony. She sang ‘Little Bird’ during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
