Jeff Garcia

Jeffrey Jason Garcia is a former gridiron football quarterback. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans. Garcia won the Nicklin Memorial Trophy, an award given to the most outstanding player in the Canadian Football League, in 1997. He also won the Grey Cup with the Calgary Stampeders in 1997 and 1998. He has been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame three times.

Summary Jeff GarciaJeffrey Jason Garcia is a former gridiron football quarterback. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans. Garcia was considered too small for the National Football League and was not selected in the 1994 NFL Draft. Garcia is one of only eleven quarterbacks in NFL history who have achieved two consecutive thirty-touchdown passing seasons at least one time in his career. He is a four-time CFL All-Star and four- time NFL Pro Bowl selection. Garcia played college football at San Jose State University and earned UPI All-America honors for his junior season in 1992. He was a South Santa Clara County selection for the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Stars Football Game and played defensive back in the game. Garcia won the Nicklin Memorial Trophy, an award given to the most outstanding player in the Canadian Football League, in 1997. He also won the Grey Cup with the Calgary Stampeders in 1997 and 1998. He has been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame three times and was inducted into the California Sports Hall of fame in 2005. He currently serves as an advisory board member for the now defunct United States Football League. He plays for the Omaha Nighthawks of the U.F.L. and has been a coach at the University of California, San Jose. He previously played for Gavilan College, a local junior college, and the San Jose City College football team. Garcia has also been a member of the Oakland Raiders, the San Diego Chargers, the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Raiders and the New England Patriots.

He won the Most Outstanding Player award in the CFL in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. Garcia also played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and Toronto Argonauts. In 2010, Garcia signed with the Houston Texans but did not play a game with the team. The Houston Texans signed him to be their new offensive coordinator for the 2011 season. He will also serve as the team’s offensive coordinator in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He had a career-high 2,608 yards in 1993 on 196-for-356 passing, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. As of 2007, Garcia had the most career offensive yards inSan Jose State history. He passed for 2,418 yards in 1992 on 209-for.371 passing with 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Garcia led the SanJose State Spartans football team to a 6-4-1 record in 1991, 7–4 in 1992, and 2–9 in 1993. He led the team to the playoffs in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. In 2003, Garcia was named backup quarterback to Doug Flutie. In 2004, Garcia took over as starter when Fluties was sidelined midway through the season with an elbow injury. In 2005, Garcia set a team record 546 passing yards and six touchdown passes in a Labour Day game against Edmonton. Garcia ended up starting for the Stamps in theGrey Cup game against the Edmonton Oilers.
