Gary Anderson (darts player)

Gary Anderson is a Scottish professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation. He is a two-time PDC World Champion, having won the title in 2015 and 2016. He has also won 31 PDC Pro Tour events as of February 2020, putting him third on the all time list behind Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor. Anderson was the first ever televised nine darter playing at the UK Open in 2013.

He is a former BDO and WDF world number one, and a two-time PDC World Champion, having won the title in 2015 and 2016. Anderson is renowned for his heavy scoring in the game and having one of the smoothest throws. He has also won 31 PDC Pro Tour events as of February 2020, putting him third on the all time list behind Michael van Gerwen on 75 and Phil Taylor on 70. Anderson won the first major tournament of his career by claiming the International Darts League and World Darts Trophy in 2007. In the two events, he had victories against Wayne Mardle, Mark Mervyn Webster, James King, Roland Scholten, Adrian Lewis, James Wade, and James King. He was also a finalist in 2011 and 2017, while he was also the runner-up in 2008, 2011 and 2013. Anderson was the first ever televised nine darter playing at the UK Open in 2013. He also set the world record for most 180s in a match at 22 180s. His nickname is ‘The Flying Scotsman’ and he is a member of the PDC Hall of Fame and the Scottish Darts Association. He currently lives in Musselburgh, Scotland, with his wife and two children. Anderson has a son and a daughter, both of whom are currently studying at the University of Edinburgh.

He won the International Darts League in 2007, the World Darted Trophy in 2007, the Zuiderduin Masters in 2007 and 2008, the Premier League in 2011 and 2015, the Players Championship Finals in 2014, the World Matchplay in 2018, the Champions League of Darts in 2018 and the 2019 PDC World Cup of Darts. In 2008, he was defeated by Fabian Roosen in the first round of the Dutch Essers, and in 2007 he lost to Dutch players – Albert Essers and Mervle Webster – in the second round. In 2007, he won the International Darts League and World Masters. In 2011, he consecutively won the Premier League and the Zuider duin  Masters. In 2013, he defeated Adrian Lewis 7–5 in the 2016 final following up his 7–6 win over Phil Taylor in 2015, while he was also finalist in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2014, he also won the World Matchplay and the Champions League. In 2012, he became the first player to win three successive tournaments in the same year. In 2015, Anderson was named PDC Fans Player of the Year and PDC Players Tour Player of the Year. In 2016, he beat Adrian Lewis in the final of the UK Open Qualifier. In 2017, Anderson won the World Grand Prix and the World Grand Prix.
