Two-time BDO World Champion Scott Waites has qualified for the World Championship for the first time, and is one of two former BDO Champions to qualify through the Pro Tour. The international qualifiers were heavily impacted by the worldwide CO VID-19 Pandemic, with a number of qualification tournaments being cancelled. The top place on the championship was given to the top player on the top tour instead of being awarded to the winner of the qualifier for India & South America. The Tom Kirby Irish Matchplay qualifiers for Europe, Western Europe and Central Europe were not held in 2020; with the four winners being awarded four places to the winners of the qualifiers.
