About 2019–20 NFL playoffs in brief

Summary 2019–20 NFL playoffsThe 2019–20 NFL playoffs, the playoff tournament for the 2019 season, began on January 4, 2020. The Kansas City Chiefs became champions by defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on February 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. This was the last postseason in which the NFL playoffs used a 12-team format. For the first time in NFL history, two wild card playoff games went to overtime. The NFL does not use a fixed bracket playoff system, and there are no restrictions regarding teams from the same division matching up in any round. The two surviving teams from each conference’s divisional playoff games then meet in the respective AFC and NFC Conference Championship games, hosted by the higher seed. Although the Super Bowl, the fourth and final round of the playoffs, is played at a neutral site, the designated home team is based on an annual rotation by conference. The league announced on May 22, 2019, that the two divisional games played on the Sunday would be moved back from their traditional 1: 00 p.m. and 4: 30  p. m. start times to 3: 05 and 6: 40 p.m , respectively, matching the conference championship games. The number 1 seed hosts the worst surviving seed from the first round, while the number 2 seed will play the other team. The #2-seeded team in each conference received a first-round bye. The New England Patriots did not appear in the AFC Championship Game, and for the first Time since 2015–16, they were eliminated in the Wild Card round by the Tennessee Titans.

The Houston Texans rallied back from a 16–0 third-quarter deficit – having been held to 62 total yards in the first half – to win with 3: 20 remaining in overtime on Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 28-yard field goal, for Buffalo’s sixth consecutive playoff loss since their last win in December 1995. The Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles became the first team inNFL history to face every team within their respective conference in the postseason at least once. The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Wild Card playoffs, with Seattle’s Russell Wilson throwing a touchdown pass to Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. The Eagles also won the NFC Divisional Game, beating the Seahawks in a game that was played in Seattle’s home stadium, the CenturyLink Field in San Francisco. The Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 14, 2020, with the host team being the New Orleans Saints. The game will be the first Super Bowl to be played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, since Super Bowl XLVII in 1994. It will also be the third Super Bowl held in Atlanta since the game was moved to Atlanta in 1994, and the first in which both teams have been in the same city. The Patriots have won two Super Bowls, the first of which was in 1998, the other in 2002.
