About Vince McMahon in brief
Vincent Kennedy McMahon is an American professional wrestling promoter and executive. He is the chairman and CEO of WWE, and the founder and owner of Alpha Entertainment. McMahon also worked as a professional wrestler and personality known by the ring name Mr. McMahon, using a gimmick based on his real-life persona. He married political executive Linda Edwards in 1966, and is the father of businesspeople Stephanie and Shane McMahon, and father-in-law to Triple H. McMahon was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in business in 1968. He worked for the WWE for his father as a commentator and he assumed control of the company in 1982. McMahon has embarked on a number of WWE-related ventures; in 2014, he launched the WWE Network, an over-the-top video streaming service. Outside of wrestling, McMahon joint-owned and operated the XFL, a football league, twice; both iterations folded after a single season. He also headed the short-lived World Bodybuilding Federation, and co-owns the clothing brand Tapout. McMahon’s paternal grandfather was promoter Roderick James \”Jess\” McMahon, whose parents were Irish immigrants from County Galway. His paternal grandmother, Rose Davis, was also of Irish descent. His father left the family when McMahon was still a baby and took his elder son Rod with him, so McMahon did not meet him until age 12. McMahon first met the promoter for Capitol Wrestling Corporation, his father Vincent J. McMahon, at the age of 12. He was raised as Vinnie Lupton and spent the majority of his childhood living with his mother and a string of stepfathers.
He later said, \”It is unfortunate that he died before I could kill him. I would have enjoyed that. I’d like to kill him now. ” McMahon is a two-time world champion, a Royal Rumble match winner, and has headlined multiple WWE pay-per-view events. The younger McMahon was also behind the renaming of the World Wrestling Federation in 1976, the match between Muhammad Ali and Antonio Inoki. At the time of his purchase of the WWF, McMahon was a partner in Titan Sports, which was incorporated in the following year. McMahon officially founded Titan Sports and the company’s headquarters were established in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, using the now-defunct Cape Cod Coliseum as a home base for the company. In 1980, McMahon officially purchased the CWC from his ailing father and in 1982 acquired control of his professional wrestling business. He became the prominent force in his father’s company, over the next decade, and pushed the company to the forefront of TV syndication. In the 1990s, McMahon became the leading figure in the wrestling industry. He faced stiff industry competition from World Championship Wrestling. In 2001, he eventually purchased the company after a long power struggle, and also purchased the assets of the defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling in 2006. McMahon is the eldest living member of the McMahon family, following his grandfather Jess and father Vincent.
