HudGens was born in Salinas, California, and was raised along the West Coast, from Oregon to Southern California. Her father, who died of cancer in February 2016, was of Irish, French and Native American descent, and her mother, a native of Manila, Philippines, is of Filipino descent. All of her grandparents were musicians. Her acting career started at the age of 15, and she briefly attended Orange County High School of the Arts, followed by homeschooling with tutors. She had her first acting role in an episode of the sitcom Still Standing, in which she portrayed Tiffany. She made her theatrical debut in the 2003 drama film Thirteen, in the supporting role of Noel. In January 2006, Hud gens played one of the lead roles in the Disney Channel Original Movie High School musical. Her debut studio album, V, was released on September 26, 2006. It sold 34,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard chart.

In February 2007, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. It was preceded by two singles, Come to Me and Back to Me, which were slightly successful in numerous countries. In August 2009, she released Identified, which has sold 570,00 copies in the US, and 2,000,000 in the UK. In the UK, her album has been certified gold. Since the release of her studio albums, she has focused on her acting career. She starred in the film Thunderbirds, based on the 1960s television series. The film was a commercial failure and was strongly criticized for \”abandoning the original concepts\”. The song \”Breaking Free\”, a duet with Zac Efron, became her highest peak on the U Billboard Hot 100 at number 9 and 9.1 in the U.S. The movie was Disney Channel’s most watched film that year with 7.7 million viewers in its premiere broadcast in the United States, until August’s premiere of The Cheetah Girls 2, which achieved 8. 1 million viewers. She appeared in several other films, including The PrincessSwitch and The Cheerleader, which was a box office success. She played the role of Emily Locke in the NBC series Powerless. She has a younger sister, Stella, who is also an actress. Her mother, Gina, held a succession of office jobs, and her father, Gregory Hudgen, was a firefighter.
