Kanal was born in Kingsbury, a northwest district of London, England. His parents emigrated from India to London, where he spent most of his early years. At age 11, his family once again moved to the United States, where they settled in Anaheim, California. He attended South Junior High School and Anaheim High School. After high school, Kanal enrolled at California State University, Fullerton to major in psychology. In 2012, the band celebrated the release of their latest album, Push and Shove. They performed their cover of the Adam and the Ants song “Stand and Deliver” at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. In 2009, they made an appearance on the television series Gossip Girl, playing a fictional band called “Snowed Out”
