He also served as the President of the Board of Education for the University of New Hampshire. He died on December 11, 1998. He will be buried in Annapolis, Maryland, where he was a midshipman in July 1904, when he took an instructional cruise on the USSNevada. He went on to become a captain in the Navy and served in World War I, the First Gulf War, and the Second Gulf War.
