Vinegaroons are carnivorous, nocturnal hunters feeding mostly on insects, millipedes, scorpions, and terrestrial isopods. The largest species, of the genus Mastigoproctus, can reach 85 mm. Males secrete a sperophore, which is transferred to the female following courtship.
