Ma Rainey
Gertrude Rainey was one of the earliest African-American professional blues singers. She bridged earlier vaudeville and the authentic expression of southern blues. Rainey recorded with Thomas Dorsey and Louis Armstrong, and she toured and recorded with the Georgia Jazz Band.
