Dogecoin was created by programmer Billy Markus from Portland, Oregon. The currency has gained traction as an Internet tipping system. On December 19, 2013, Dogecoin jumped nearly 300 percent in value in 72 hours. In July 2020 the total capitalization of Dogecoins is expected to reach $2.5 billion.
